North Shore.       Oil

James Ellis

As an oil painter: "

Visiting national and state parks, exploring forests and mountain ranges or lingering along lakes, rivers or waterfalls listening to the water cascading over rocks or lapping at the shoreline are all memorable experiences.

Nature evokes emotion, awakens the senses and has a positive impact on our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Unfortunately for most of us who spend time in scenic spots and quiet places it is only for a short time. Everyday I look at my work, much of which is created from experiences on the North Shore of Lake Superior, and I am returned to that spot; the waterfall, the lake, the mountain, the forest or the natural formation that caused me to pause."

"For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands." - Isaiah 55:12

"As an oil painter using the alla prima technique, my brush and palette knife transform blank canvas into a visual short story, each page preserving a memory."
